Portrait for my Mother
? 13th of May 2018
This painting is a portrait of my mother, made in 2017 and given to her on her birthday. This painting unfolded after I received a series of dreams about her, in which the Divine Qualities in her (that dwell in all of us) showed very clearly.
"I dreamed that I was standing in front of a long mirror, wearing a long robe, sandals, and a bowl of sacrificial flowers in my hands, and suddenly my clothes and the bowl began to change... This continued, every times my clothes and the bowl in my hands changed in a different style from different times and cultures. " My mother shared this dream with me more than 10 years ago... in that moment a seed was planted which would later unfold. Because in that moment I could've never imagined that I would receive dreams about her inner self later on. About 3 years ago it started, and I received a series of dreams about my mother in which I could see her True Self and the Divine Qualities it holds, I dreamed that I was in her house, every room in her house seemed to be filled with beautiful qualities that I already saw in my mother as a child. This house symbolized her Self. The last dream I received, she was a Balinese Priestess wearing a beautiful attire, and I saw her perform a flower ritual to bless a bride and groom. The characteristics of this ritual were strange to me (since I was born in the Netherlands) but somehow it was 'confirmed' by the amazing synchronicities that came my way after this dream.
I knew that I had to paint this for my mother, not only to process this experience that holds so many layers, but also to ground it. It has become a painting with many layers because it also touches personal pieces in me, ofcourse it also carries the Divine Feminine but the message that stays with me the most is the Power & Healing that arises within a familyline when listening to the Whispers of the Soul. This creates Pillars of Light that become the guiding lights on the path of Awareness, and therefore also within a familyline and the rest of the world.
For this reason, an existing photograph of my grandmother (my mother's mother) has been incorporated in the painting, she is in my opinion certainly a Pillar of Light.
